Portugal Golden Visa ends in 2022? Myth or Truth?

We will start from the most popular question we get: Will the program end next year? The answer is, NO.

Starting from 2019 there has been many discussions on the changes for the program, but the Portuguese government was never planning to end the program.

In the beginning of 2020 the Portuguese Parliament proposed to change the Portuguese Golden Visa program in order to promote investment in low-density areas and cultural heritage. The changes should have been implemented in January 2021, later due to the pandemic situation they were postponed to July 2021 and at last it was decided that changes will come into force from January 2022.

Does that mean you can still invest in Portugal through Golden Visa in 2022? YES. But not with the current conditions. Starting from January 2022 you won’t be able to invest in residential properties in Lisbon, Porto and other major cities. The eligible area of investments will be limited to the Inland Territories, Azores, and Madeira. And the minimum investments will no longer be 280,000 Euros, real estate investments will start from 350,000 Euros.
