Immigration News: Amendments to the Portuguese “Golden Visa” Program approved

PUBLISHED ON
4.1.2021

We are happy to announce that the Portuguese Government decided not to eliminate Lisbon from the Golden Visa Program on January 2021.

According to the statements made at the end of the Council of Ministers, changes will come into force only on July 1st, 2021, with a transitional period until 2022. The renewals of processes approved under the current regime, as well as, the subsequent requests for family reunification will not be affected.

DRP Advisers will be happy to assist clients with finding the best investment opportunities in Lisbon and other big cities.

What we know so far:

The new rules enter into force only on July 1st, 2021.
Everyone who completes the investment and submits his/her application before the date will be on board.
The clients already in the Program will not be affected.
After July 1, 2021 and until the end of 2022, it will still be possible to invest in Lisbon/Oporto areas, but with new investment thresholds.
The concept of low density territories will be replaced by a concept of “Inland Areas” (as listed in a Government Decree from 2017).
This list of territories in the said Government decree is shorter that the list applicable under the current concept of low-density territories.
For example the Algarve will no longer be applicable.

Yet to be confirmed:

The new investment thresholds from July 1st, 2021 to December 31st, 2020 are expected to be 1 million Euros.
What will be the conditions of investment in the Inland Areas, as it was expected the rules to be more flexible there that in other territories.
The minimum amount of investment in the funds (purchase of participation units) will increase from 350,000 to 500,000 Euros.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to invest in Lisbon!
